Super Smash Bros. (Nintendo Wii, 2014) No Manual, Very Good
Released in 2014, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo Wii U is Nintendo’s official excuse for settling arguments with cartoon violence. This is the entry where everyone shows up, everyone fights, and nobody agrees on the rules except one: someone is getting launched off the screen in a completely unfair way.
The gameplay is the same beautiful chaos Smash is known for. You rack up damage instead of health, knock opponents into orbit, and swear that the game is cheating every time you lose. It is easy to pick up, deceptively deep if you care to learn it, and perfectly happy to let button-mashers and try-hards ruin the same couch together.
Visually, it is clean, colorful, and built to keep the action readable even when four characters, items, and explosions are happening at once. The roster is stacked, the stages are memorable, and the music is pure Nintendo fan-service cranked to eleven.
Super Smash Bros. is a single-player and local multiplayer experience, and the original online features are no longer active. What remains is one of the best party fighters Nintendo has ever made. If you want couch chaos, trash talk, and friendships tested over cartoon punches, you can buy retro games on Retro Games eXchange and grab this knowing it delivers exactly that.
