LittleBigPlanet [GOTY] (PlayStation 3, 2009)

LittleBigPlanet [Game of the Year Edition] on PlayStation 3 is peak “cozy chaos with scissors and glue.”
You get the original 2008 platformer plus a pile of bonus content on one disc, turning Sackboy’s already ridiculous toybox into a full-blown creative problem.
Released in 2009, this GOTY print bundles the base game with curated extra levels and DLC packs straight onto the Blu-ray.

Core gameplay is still the classic side-scrolling “Play, Create, Share” loop: run, jump, grab, swing, and get smacked into stickers and cardboard contraptions across a handcrafted story mode.
Once you’re comfortable not falling into every pit, you can jump into Create mode to build your own levels using switches, hazards, physics objects, and logic toys that were way too advanced for something starring a smiling burlap doll.

The GOTY edition’s big flex is content. On top of the original story, it includes 18 bonus levels created by standout community creators and officially curated, plus multiple DLC packs like the Metal Gear Solid level pack, History pack, Monsters pack, and extra costume sets, all on disc.
Back then you also got access to the ModNation Racers online beta, making this version the “stuffed to the seams” release.

Originally, LittleBigPlanet was all about hopping online with up to four players, sharing levels, and diving into more user-generated stages than you could ever finish in a lifetime.
However, as of September 2021, Sony permanently shut down the PS3 LittleBigPlanet servers, which means online play and community level sharing no longer work on this version.
Today, you’re buying it for the offline story, local co-op, and all the GOTY bonus content baked into the disc.

1. The GOTY disc includes 18 curated community levels chosen by Media Molecule and Sony, giving you a “best of early LBP creators” set without needing to download anything.
2. You also get multiple DLC packs on disc, including the Metal Gear Solid level and costume packs, History pack, Monsters pack, and Animal costume pack—stuff that was separate paid DLC for standard copies.
3. Local play supports up to four players on one PS3, turning the story and user levels on the disc into a full couch co-op party even without online servers.
4. When it launched, GOTY was marketed as the “best way in” to LittleBigPlanet, combining an award-winning base game, over a million online levels, and more than $30 worth of extra content—before the later server shutdown era.
5. A neat bit of history: this edition helped cement LittleBigPlanet as Sony’s flagship “user-generated content” brand on PS3, paving the road for LittleBigPlanet 2, 3, and later spin-offs built around the same create-anything DNA.
