Chronicles of Narnia Lion Witch and the Wardrobe (Nintendo Gamecube, 2005) No Manual, Very Good
Before Game of Thrones made medieval fantasy cool again, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe hit the Nintendo GameCube in 2005. Developed by Traveller’s Tales and published by Buena Vista Games, this action-adventure lets you run around as the Pevensie kids—y’know, the ones who stumble through a magical closet and suddenly have to save an entire kingdom from an evil snow queen. Totally normal childhood stuff.
The game mixes combat, puzzles, and teamwork as you swap between siblings with different abilities. Peter swings swords like a budget Aragorn, Susan goes full Legolas with her bow, Edmund scrambles up stuff and does sneaky moves, and Lucy heals your sorry butt when you take too many hits. Oh, and Aslan the talking lion shows up to remind you this is still very much a Christian allegory wrapped in a fantasy brawl.
Why should you buy retro games like this one? Here’s your cheat sheet:
- Co-op mode lets you drag your siblings or friends into the chaos (fitting, since it’s about siblings anyway).
- It’s basically Lord of the Rings Lite but with more Turkish Delight references.
- You get to fight wolves, trolls, and ice monsters while pretending you read the book in school.
If you’re filling out your GameCube library, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is a quirky slice of mid-2000s gaming. It’s action, it’s fantasy, it’s family drama—and yes, you should absolutely buy retro games on Retro Games eXchange before the White Witch freezes your collection.
